| Bonnie Gibson-Brydon is a highly qualified American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter who has been working in the profession for more than thirty years. For the last twelve years she has been the Executive Director of PULA Legal Interpreting Network, as well as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Mojave Deaf Services. Bonnie is a graduate of California State University Dominguez Hills with a Bachelor of Arts in English/Classical Literature. She is nationally certified by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) with a Certificate of Interpretation (CI) and a Certificate of Transliteration (CT). Bonnie is currently completing an additional RID certification-- that of Specialist Certificate: Legal (SC: L). She is also a Licensed Practitioner with Agape International, ALSP. Bonnie is highly skilled and experienced in the areas of legal and community interpreting. Her career also encompasses the full range of interpreting: namely, medical, mental health, conference and educational interpreting. She continues to be actively and directly involved in the field of interpreting. As an advocate, Bonnie has promoted equal access for the Deaf community. For example, she has attended monthly meetings with the Deaf in Southern California, supporting them in their objective to obtain adequate services. In addition, Bonnie has educated the business community in this area about their legal responsibility to provide appropriate interpreting services for their Deaf and hard of hearing clients. As a mentor, Bonnie has shared her knowledge and experience in the interpreting field with beginning and intermediate level interpreters for more than fifteen years. She is able to accurately diagnose the needs and learning style of each mentee. Bonnie is an empathetic instructor, who understands the frustration of an interpreter with limited experience. She teaches successful learning techniques in a supportive environment. Her instruction builds confidence and improved skill in the novice interpreter. Bonnie has a lot to offer. She is funny, caring and encourages her audiences in many ways. |
