“Interpreting Religious Music: The Art of Making Music Visual”
Beginner
Dr. Ava Morrow

Music is an important part of the religious experience. Religious songs invite the Spirit of the Lord, create a feeling of reverence, and provide a way for the parishioners to offer praises to the Lord. This workshop will enhance your ability to interpret songs so that the Deaf parishioners can experience the power of music through ASL. This interactive workshop will explore the power of music, discuss the interpreter’s responsibility, as well as describe techniques used to analyze the meaning of the song, interpret the message of the song, and convey the mood (spirit) and rhythm of the song. Participants should bring an audio version and 2 copies of a written or typed version of a song in which they will analyze and interpret.
