“Preach, Preacher! Say it like They Preach It!”

| This workshop develops interpreting skills to deal with conceptual accuracy, metaphor use, adjectival phrasing, cadences and syntactic patterns. For source material, we will cover context and content of African American Preaching, and common rhetorical devices used in these preaching styles. These areas will be starting points to look at concept origination. From here, we will train for accuracy. We will also address tactics for what to do when you don’t know or understand a concept. For assessment, attendees will break in to small groups to prepare texts for translation. Persons will present the resulting interpretation for application of recently gained knowledge and feedback. |
