| The Department of Education seeks
faculty applicants committed to excellence, imagination,
and collaboration who demonstrate exemplary teaching
and potential for scholarship and program leadership.
Successful applicants will demonstrate experiences
with ethnically and linguistically diverse populations,
multidisciplinary approaches, and a strong connection
with communities and schools. Applicants must be
excellent communicators and demonstrate sign language
competency before promotion or tenure. |

| Deaf Education and General
Education Programs: Expertise
in Students with Disabilities (preferred) or Early
Childhood Education |
|
|
| Qualifications: |
- An earned doctorate in education,
deaf education, early childhood education, special
education, or related field, with specialization
and licensure in students with disabilities
or early childhood education. Exceptional candidates
with doctoral degrees in progress will be considered.*
- At least three years of teaching
experience with students with disabilities or
in early childhood classrooms, with a preference
for experience in ASL/English bilingual learning
environments.
- Knowledge and skills in pedagogy
and content relevant to working with students
with disabilities and in early childhood and
bilingual education.
- Experience with new or prospective
teachers in practicum or mentoring relationships.
- Excellent American Sign Language
(ASL) skills are strongly desired. If not already
proficient, a new faculty member must develop
proficiency in ASL in accordance with Gallaudet
faculty guidelines.
- Potential for outstanding
scholarship, teaching, and service.
- Excellent interpersonal and
collaboration skills.
*To be considered for tenure at Gallaudet University,
a candidate must possess a terminal degree;
an applicant who lacks a terminal degree (Ph.D.
or Ed.D.) may be required to spend up to three
years in a pre-tenure track position before
receiving a tenure-track position.

| Responsibilities: |
- Teach courses related to students with disabilities,
early childhood education, deaf education, or
bilingual education at undergraduate and graduate
levels, in general education and deaf education
programs
- Provide leadership and guidance
to ongoing curriculum revisions infusing pedagogical
knowledge and instructional practices for supporting
the achievement of students with disabilities
in undergraduate and graduate courses
- Supervise students in practica
and provide academic advising and professional
mentoring
- Work collaboratively with
school partners
- Engage in scholarship, including
research and program development
- Participate in department
and university faculty activities and professional
service

| Rank and Salary: |
| Instructor
or Assistant Professor. Rank and salary commensurate
with experience and qualifications. Appointment
will be for the regular nine-month academic year. |
