The College of Education at Troy University, Troy, Alabama is seeking candidates for a 12-month tenure track Assistant/Associate/Full Professor position as Program Director and faculty in a newly created undergraduate Interpreter Training Program (ITP). The College is seeking a highly motivated individual to begin recruiting, marketing and course construction for this program.
The anticipated start date for the Interpreter Training Program is fall 2008. The ITP Director will be housed in the Department of Curriculum & Teaching and reports directly to the Chair of the Department.
The Department of Curriculum & Teaching offers undergraduate and graduate programs in elementary education, secondary education, and reading. The Program Director directly supervises one secretary, one full-time faculty member and adjunct faculty.
A Masters degree or earned doctorate in education, or a related field is required. In addition, the successful candidate will |
- have experience teaching ASL and/or Interpreting in higher education;
- hold national certification in interpreting;
- hold ASLTA certification
- have experience in the use of educational technology and/or distance learning;
- have experience in program management and development;
- be experienced in curriculum development;
- have demonstrated evidence of successful collaboration with school systems, community agencies, and other organizations;
- have the ability to address grant opportunities;
- have demonstrated evidence of professional involvement and leadership in the field; and
- demonstrated leadership and membership in national professional organizations such as RID, ASLTA, & NAD and CIT (Conference of Interpreter Trainers).

Responsibilities include, teaching , academic advisement, and the recruitment of students, Administrative responsibilities include: Coordinating field placements, Recruiting and hiring qualified adjunct instructors, responding to student/faculty issues; planning and evaluation of programs in support of the department’s goals and activities. Preference will be given to candidates with ASLTA, RID National certification, and administrative experience.
The successful candidate must exhibit strong communication and leadership skills in all activities. These activities include open lines of communication with faculty, staff, students, administration, Deaf community, regional support systems, state and federal agencies, and groups/individuals within the university and global community.
Qualified individuals should submit a vita, letter of application discussing the candidate's background and experience in working with the Deaf community, teaching American Sign Language and Interpreting courses in higher education.
