Salary Range: $29,438 - $45,969
 
Description:
This position is located in the North Carolina Division of Services for the Deaf and the Hard of Hearing (DSDHH) Administration Office in Raleigh, North Carolina.
  • The Interpreter for the Deaf I position provides direct interpreting and/or transliterating services for DSDHH programs and administrative staff. This position will also serve as a resource to the Department of Health and Human Services on interpreting services.  The interpreter must be eligible for a North Carolina Interpreter and Transliterator License (www.ncitlb.org).
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Provide interpreting/transliterating services for students, staff, faculty, & the university community within a flexible schedule.
  • 37.5 hours per week which include interpreting services, office hours, & prep time (1 hour per class per week)
Salary/benefits:
  • Possession of at least four years of professional sign language interpreting experience.
  • Knowledge related to the Professional Code of Conduct for interpreters, the general business practices of interpreter services and Deaf Culture.
  • Ability to interpret and/or transliterate, receptively and expressively in a variety of settings (including, but not limited to, group meetings, one on one meetings, presentations, conferences, etc);
  • Ability to provide guidance, information and education in the area of interpreting;
  • Ability to multi-task, organize priorities and make decisions with sound judgment.
  • Advanced public speaking skills, both spoken and written (English);
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and team building skills.
Training and Experience:
  • High school diploma AND 12 months of professional interpreting experience; OR
  • An equivalent combination of related training (Deaf Education, Interpreter Education Program) and experience.
