As more interpreters of color begin to work as Video Relay Interpreters, Black Deaf Community have an increased opportunity to communicate in their true native language – not only Sign Language, but ASL as used in the Black community. This is much better than typing English sentences.

All persons of color need to bridge “the digital divide” -- Hearing and Deaf.

“Digital Divide” is a phrase that means there is a gap between the groups that use the internet and those who do not.

The internet provides access to worlds of information that cannot be found anyplace else. It makes selling, learning, shopping, visiting, ….. much easier. People that use the ‘net have more information, better information, and faster information. Black people and Deaf people cannot afford to fall behind in this area, and VRS is one way to bring Deaf people to the ‘net.

The internet is visual. Deaf people are uniquely equipped to understand and navigate it.
